Skiing from the chalet
Chalet Épervier is surrounded by the widest and best choice of both on and off-piste skiing in Europe.
The main ski areas apart from Sainte Foy are at Val d’Isere, which is linked to Tignes; Les Arcs and La Plagne, which are now joined together by a high speed cable car. Other ski areas are at Sainte Foy Ski Station and La Rosiere.
World Famous Val d’Isere and the ‘Espace Killy’ region is just a 20 minute drive from the Chalet and has everything! With 300km of slopes including 20 green runs through to 19 black with over 90 lifts, no day will ever be the same.
Sainte Foy itself has the range of pistes ideal for beginners/intermediates, and unparalleled access to superb off-piste for those looking for a little more adventure. It also has the advantage of being cheaper and less crowded at peak times than the main areas. The Sainte Foy resort is a short ski or hike away from the chalet.
For the more adventurous, there are excellent off-piste areas, with the North face of La Fogliettaz, above Sainte Foy offering a challenging ski and a stunning landscape. Sainte Foy is a 5 minute drive from the chalet. La Rosiere connects up with La Thuile on the Italian side of the Alps. This provides a good variety of skiing as well as the fun of skiing from France to Italy for a gourmet Italian meal. La Rosiere is a 15 minute drive from the Chalet.
Villaroger, near Sainte Foy, has a car park and chair lift up to Les Arcs. This avoids the need to drive to Les Arcs and is a good way of beating crowds. The Villlaroger area has beautiful forest pistes which are good to ski, particularly in poor weather when the trees provide both shelter and visual definition, with one of the longest runs in Europe descending over a possible 2,000m vertical drop! Villaroger is a five minute drive from the Chalet.
Instructors & Guides
To make the most of the incredible off-piste skiing around Chalet Épervier, we’d be happy to organise a few days or entire week with one of the areas most experienced ski instructors and mountain guides. Equally, for beginners or those wanting to hone their skills, we are happy to organise individual or group lessons at the nearby Sainte Foy resort, which due to its size is a perfect, undaunting place to learn.
Whether in wide open fields of untracked snow, in the forest or just next to the groomed runs; from a simple run to the most technical north face; the off-piste at Sainte Foy has been described as “exceptional” by mountain professionals and experienced amateurs alike.
Heliskiing
Heliskiing is authorised by the Italian authorities. As Sainte Foy is situated close to the Italian border it is a fantastic site for heliskiing.
The Sainte Foy guides office specialises in high altitude skiing around Sainte Foy and offers routes of varying difficulty to all skiers who have a good skill level. Head off to discover untouched areas for the day, in the knowledge that you are being guided by professionals.
Englishman Chris Harrop is well known in the area having taught here for over 30 years. Even the most experienced skiers say their improvement within hours of Chris’ instruction would takes years with other teachers. We would be delighted to organise high adventure skiing and technical development solutions for both individuals and groups through his British American Ski School in Val d’Isere or guiding days through the stunning off-piste terrains.
Ski Passes & Hire
We are happy to organise your ski passes for you and hire of all equipment. We can arrange a shop or chalet visit. This also means you can leave your gear with us at the end of the week – none of the hassle of getting back to the ski store at the last minute.
